Shake Shack Manila

Shake Shack: Is it Worth it?

Shake Shack has opened here in the Philippines last May 10 and as much as I am excited like the others, I have decided not to go with the hype. Lining up for hours just to dine-in is just not my thing. I heard from my friends that it is best to go here during the off-peak hours and avoid lunch breaks or dinner time. Despite my friend’s recommendations, we dine-in during dinner time and as much as to my surprise, there was no line at 7:00pm. At around 8:00pm people started lining up, but the line was short and the service was fast. We’ve waited for just less than 5 minutes (we’re not even decided on what to order).

Ordering was a breeze but getting a seat was a bit hard. There’s outside sitting but it was hot at that time so, we’ve waited for a vacant seat inside. After some time, we’re lucky to get a seat and our order arrived just in time.

The menu was almost the same but I was saddened that they don’t have cream soda and the Hong Kong exclusive concrete, That’s My Jam. What they have was the Calamansi Limeade, Ube Shake, Calamansi Pie Oh My, and the Uuube-by baby for Manila exclusives.

For the burger, we’ve tried the Shack and Smoke Shack Burger.

Shack Burger – cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce. Even before, I am already impressed with the quality of their beef patty but still, I find it too expensive. The patty tastes the same from what we remember but the burger bun was not. The bun was not as soft from the one we have tried in Hong Kong.

Price: Php 250
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 3.5/5

Smoke Shack – cheeseburger with all-natural Applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, and ShackSauce. I like this one better than the Shack Burger. I love its combination plus the chopped cherry pepper helped balance the saltiness of smoked bacon. Yummm! Also, it is best to have any of their concretes after indulging this burger.

Price: Php 365
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 4.5/5

Hot Dog – All-beef hotdog. You can add Shack cheese sauce for additional Php 50 only. But, hhhhmmm.. Better skip this.

Price: Php 200
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 2.5/5

Crinkle-Cut Fries – the quality of the fries was not the same from the one we have tried in Hong Kong, HK’s fries are way better. We also love their cheese fries but we forgot to try it here, maybe next time.

Price: Php 130
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 3/5

I heard they have really great shakes here, so we have decided to try the Classic Han-Spun Salted Caramel and Ube Shakes. Both shakes are super thick, creamy, rich, and flavorful. The milkshakes were good but I would recommend that you order something light for your drink like the Calamansi Limeade, soda or just have water to fully enjoy the taste of their burgers.

Classic Han-Spun Salted Caramel Shake – normally, I would go for strawberry or chocolate but I have decided to try the salted caramel instead. It was good but it can get a bit too sweet as you continue sipping.

Price: Php 190
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 3.5/5

Ube Shake – vanilla frozen custard blended with ube. This one’s got real ube, thick and flavorful. Delicious but nothing extraordinary.

Price: Php 190
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 3/5

Calamansi Limeade – a local twist on a Shack classic and we surely did, love that twist! It has the perfect combination of sweet and tart. This is a great option if you want to have something light to drink.

Price: Php 130
Table for: 1 (small)
Food Rating: 5/5

For the concretes, we tried them all because, why not? Haha.

Shack Attack – chocolate custard, Bucky’s original brownie, Auro chocolate chunks, fudge sauce, topped with chocolate sprinkles. They sure did use only high-quality ingredients here, and it was heaven on earth for chocolate lovers like me.

Price: Php 250
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 5/5

Calamansi Pie Oh My – vanilla custard with a slice of Wildflour’s calamansi pie. I am a fan of Wildflour’s calamansi pie and I have high expectations on this one and I am so glad that it did not disappoint! Sweet and tangy just how we want it.

Price: Php 250
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 5/5

Another good thing about buying their concrete was that 5% of their sales will support Children’s Hour, an organization that supports projects on education, health & nutrition, and child welfare & development.

Uuube-by baby – vanilla custard with ube, coconut marshmallow, ube cookie, toasted coconut, sago pearls, and crispy pinipig topped with leche flan. This one was like their version of our halo-halo. It tastes really good but I prefer the other ones as this is too sweet for me.

Price: Php 250
Table for: 1
Food Rating: 3.5/5

BTW, if you want water, they have lemon water which you can get for free at their self-service counter just beside the condiments.

Ambiance: 4/5
Service: 5/5
Value for Money: 3.5/5
Overall Rating: 4/5

Overall, I love their concretes, it was worth it and I would definitely come back for more. For their burgers, though I love the Smoke Shack, I would still think twice before ordering it again since I know other places which serve equally delicious burgers that are more affordable.
